Hello friends,
I stopped playing with my rogue in order to try the warlock life, and I liked it too much so I swapped from Yramrag (Rogue) to Innoruuk (Warlock currently 43th). I got one question to you experienced warlocks: I was going to try this build with ordinary SM/RUIN but I was wondering if those AoE specific talents were worth getting so I figured out another build, not very different from the initial one. I was also wondering what will be the more versatile initial destruction talents, as I think aftermath is a good one also. I like not to be too much pvp orientated or pve orientated so I try to search a compromise between the two worlds.
SM 5/5 - RUIN

Affliction Talents (30 points)
Improved Corruption - 5/5 points
Reduces the casting time of your Corruption spell by 2 seconds.
Suppression - 5/5 points
Reduces the chance for enemies to resist your Affliction spells by 10%.
Improved Life Tap - 2/2 points
Increases the amount of Mana awarded by your Life Tap spell by 20%.
Improved Drain Soul - 2/2 points
Gives you a 100% chance to get a 100% increase to your Mana regeneration for 10 seconds if the target dies while while you drain its soul. In addition, your Mana may continue to regenerate while casting at 50% of normal.
Fel Concentration - 5/5 points
Gives you a 70% chance to avoid interruption caused by damage while channelling the Drain Life, Drain Mana, or Drain Soul spell.
Amplify Curse - 1/1 point
Increases the effect of your next Curse of Weakness or Curse of Agony by 50%, or your next Curse of Exhaustion by 20%.
Nightfall - 2/2 points
Gives your Corruption and Drain Life spells a 4% chance to cause you to enter a Shadow Trance state after damaging the opponent. The Shadow Trance state reduces the casting time of your next Shadow Bolt spell by 100%.
Grim Reach - 2/2 points
Increases the range of your Affliction spells by 20%.
Siphon Life - 1/1 point
Transfers 15 health from the target to the caster every 3 seconds. Lasts 30 seconds.
Shadow Mastery - 5/5 points
Increases the damage dealt or life drained by your Shadow spells by 10%.
Destruction Talents (21 points)
Improved Shadow Bolt - 5/5 points
Your Shadow Bolt critical strikes increase the next 4 sources of Shadow damage dealt to the target by 20%. Effect lasts a maximum of 12 seconds.
Bane - 5/5 points
Reduces the casting time of your Shadow Bolt and Immolate spells by 0.5 seconds.
Shadowburn - 1/1 point
Instantly blasts the target for 87 to 99 Shadow damage. If the target dies from Shadowburn, and yields experience or honor, the caster gains a Soul Shard.
Devastation - 5/5 points
Increases the critical strike chance of your Destruction spells by 5%.
Destructive Reach - 2/2 points
Increases the range of your Destruction spells by 20%.
Improved Searing Pain - 2/5 points
Increases the critical strike chance of your Searing Pain spell by 4%.
Ruin - 1/1 point
Increases the critical strike damage bonus of your Destruction spells by 100%.

1st build:

Suppression: good for taking on higher lvl foes (less resists) so its mostly handy in MC/BWL f/e

Improved drain soul: Total waste, bugged atm, and even if it wasnt bugged.. total waste =)


2nd build:

suppression+imp drain soul same as above


On the other questions:
Aftermath: Pure PVP build since dazes are annoying for players, mobs dont care much.

Pyroclasm: the 26% stun is devided per tick so each tick has a 3.25% chance (ROF) & 1.73% chance (HF) to actually stun. In practice too low to count on in PVE and practicly useless in PVP

Move a some of the points (like Imp. Drain Soul) in the first build to CoEx and Improved CoEx. Nice for PvP (not like I care about that anyway) and for kiting mobs.

thanks for the replies guys :)
so basically scrap drain soul and those 4 points in the aoe section? I could go to coex/imp coex in order to reach SM altho I don't really like coex as it's a short duration debuff and the reduction of speed is not really noticeable unless you train all the coex line, and maybe put 4 points in aftermath to annoy some in pvp :P

id keep the +70% chance to not be interrupted while channeling aoe

because due to a bug the 1st tick doesnt even do dmg, and you do not want to lose 1000/1300 mana on 0 dmg >_>

I think I'll go with this build, after chatting some with Heph ( /cheers matey), in order to lvl as fast as possible.

Increases the maximum Health of your Imp, Voidwalker, Succubus, and Felhunter by 15%.


Fel Domination - 1/1 point
Your next Imp, Voidwalker, Succubus, or Felhunter Summon spell has its casting time reduced by 5.5 seconds and its Mana cost reduced by 50%.


Unholy Power - 5/5 points
Increases the damage done by your Voidwalker, Succubus, and Felhunter's melee attacks by 20%.


Master Summoner - 2/2 points

I still have to choose between soul link and siphon life. I also wanted to know what kind of equip should I aim to, if sta/int or +dmg

Hasn't Blizzard announced that they are implementing some kind of prioritysystem for debuffs on the mob along with the upcoming change that will give us 16 debuff slots to fill?

Then maybe Affliction will be viable in the end game as I once imagined when looking through the classes (some 60 levels ago) ... if I were the victim of 4-5 Corruptions/Siphon Life/CoA ticking away I'd for sure run around in panic :)

That, or the cookiecutter 30/0/21. Maybe even dark pact for leveling. Going demo for the grind is just stupid.
