Here is my question...

I have a server and im going to set it up for hosting/mail server but i was wondering if there is any guide or fomula people use to work out how many accounts i can host on a single server before the performance degrades.... before its too late obviously.

how many accounts can you generally host on a single server, is webhosting a resource hog?

2 specs

3ghz duel CPU
1 TB
4 GB DDR2

///
///
///
///

1.6ghz CPU
160 GB
1 GB - 800 DDR2 SDRAM

any ideas? im new to this.

Thanks in advance.

Every server has different websites which all perform differently, there's no rule of thumb (that I'm aware of).

Rather, you put a few sites on, monitor the performance, and base on that how many more you can take before running out of resources.

Mail will never be a problem, I had a server sending 2 million a day with lower specs than the first one you mentioned. It's the websites that are the resource hogs.
