So many greek mythos films coming out soon make me nervous and sweaty! I finished reading the Percy Jackson books around October and found out they were making a movie out of Lightning Thief for early 2010. Looking forward to that, though hoping Disney doesn't fuck it up and turn it into some disgusting teenage love story.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief (http://www.foxinternational.com/percyjackson/)

And more importantly, 30 years after first being shown, they're re-making Clash of the Titans! Trailer looks totally breath-taking.

http://clash-of-the-titans.warnerbros.com/

Another film that looks promising is Inception (http://inceptionmovie.warnerbros.com/)

Toy Story 3, Tron: Legacy, Alice in Wonderland... I approve of what 2010 holds.

Can't wait for Clash of the Titans. That was one of my childhood favourites. Saw The Road last night, pretty grim but a well made film.

I'm also looking forward to Book of Eli, Hot Tub Time Machine and Legion.

Apparenty the soundtrack to Book of Eli is amazing.

Saw a film last night called The Boys are Back. Makes me want to move to Australia :p Pretty good movie; makes you think.

Also saw Chocolat. Didn't know it was directed by the same guy who made Shipping News and What's Eating Gilbert Grape (one of my favourite films by the way). Movie was fantastic and since watching it I've had a craving for chocolate that will only be sated by a trip to a fine chocolatier's shop.

Just came back from Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief. Was quite good I thought,despite quite a few (large) differences from the book. On it's own it's quite enjoyable.

Now can't wait for Clash of the Titans (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0800320/) :) Do want.

Also saw several trailers:

* Prince of Persia (http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi1680081945/)

* Karate Kid (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1155076/)

* How to train your Dragon (http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi3870033177/)

* Toy Story 3 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0435761/)

* Avatar: The Last Airbender (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0938283/)

* The Sorcerer's Apprentice (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0963966/)

* Inception (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1375666/)

Seems Odeon cinemas in the UK are refusing to play it too, due to Disney's plan to release it on DVD after 12 weeks instead of the usual 17.

Hardly ever go to the cinema these days unless I'm dragged in, clutching my wallet like an over-protective parent 'Popcorn? How Much? Fuck that right off, I'll chew my jacket...'

The new Travolta movie, From Paris With Love is absolutely terrible.

Here, I'll give you the best bit out of the whole thing.

They're sitting on a bench and Travolta pulls a burger out of a bag and goes "You can't not like a Royale with cheese".

The end.

Give it a miss!

law abiding citizen was a damn good movie, the court scene made me really LMFAO.
watched "Legion" a few weeks back after somebody on here recommended it / posted about it, I have to say it was prob the worst movie Ive seen in a very long time, terrible acting and horrendous story.

Yeah I liked the first one better too..
In the first one I preferred the Tony Stark scenes over the Iron Man scenes, so when they just tried to double the action and explosions and CGI for the second one, I didn't really get anything out of it.

Still both cool films though.

Shiverchill
05-05-2010, 03:42 AM
Seen IM2, liked it, but its "different" from first. First movie was a "serious" port of a comic to movie, and imo it succeeded. Second was a mix of comedy and action on a known franchise. And damn, there defo was enough comedy there. Its not an Iron Man proper, but like a spinoff or something.

Worth watching

In other news, i really cant wait until the Last Airbender. I am one of the geeks who have been watching "Avatar: The Last Airbender" cartoon series since it began, and watched it till the end. I have seen the trailers, and i have to say, its looking brilliant.

For people who dont mind cartoons, i highly recommend watching the "avatar: the last airbender" series (it contains..er... 5 "seasons" i think? a single storyline, each episode connected with previous, and absolutely amazing imo).

It was quite good. I remember feeling like that as well coming out of the movies.

The soundtrack is even better. The title track 'Hideaway' is a really nice listen, as well as some of the background music that plays during the movie (dirt fight scene in particular).

And Jurassic Park is one of the few films that I wore my VHS tape out I've watched it so many times :D

If you liked Shawshank Redemption (who doesn't? One of the best films ever made) you'll probably also enjoy The Green Mile. Also a prison story about a murderer who is sentenced to the electric chair and the relationship he develops with the warden, played by Tom Hanks. Got the novel lying around here somewhere....

Just finished watching an old 80's movie called Rain Man. Plot basically involves the relationship developed between Charlie (Tom Cruise), a car dealer in a tight financial situation, and his newly-discovered brother Ray (Dustin Hoffman), an autistic savant who just inherited three million off their father's will. The movie was fantastic and I have to say it's probably the only decent role Tom Cruise has done. Probably cause he got to be an asshole - guess he didn't have to do much acting.

I also bought Avatar DVD a few days ago. Of course you can't replicate seeing it 3D at an IMAX but it's still a very enjoyable movie.

Next movie I'll watch will be playing the original Clash of the Titans again, or maybe have a Star Wars marathon and watch all six movies in one go.

Im not usually into this kind of stuff, but once i was in a girlish company (yes i was! im not lying) and the "crowd majority" selected this movie to watch, so i was kind of stuck with it. While still not really my type, i surprisingly enjoyed the storyline - which imo was very well written and intriguing.

The ending is absolutely beautiful, and perfectly suits the movie itself. If you have a few hours to kill sometime, just give it a try (just please, watch it till the end once you start).

In other news, just rewatched An American Tail 1&2 (should watch 3 sometime later).

Went to see Prince of Persia and Robin Hood at the drive-in last night. Both were very good films in my opinion and definitely worth a visit to the movies. Robin Hood was just plain excellent: the cast was great, it had humour in all the right places, brilliant acting and a great story & soundtrack. I'd watch it again and again.

Went to see the new Karate Kid. Was quite good, different enough from the original that it's not a cheap remake but those that have seen the first will appreciate the subtle references. Lastly Jackie Chan makes for a pretty good Mr. Miyagi.

After that saw Shrek 4. Was funny at parts but it felt quite short. Not as good as the previous ones IMO. They added a nice touch by putting I'm a Believer at the end as well, a clear nod to the first movie :)

Prince of Persia was okay. Good actors, funny scenes, fast paced action. If they had not made the moving from one scene to the other feel so hurried, it would have been good instead of "just" okay

Seen Sorcerer's Apprentice earlier today. Imo a fantastic film, although in a somewhat different way.

Some people might not like it, but the true "genius" lies in how the film is made. its Disney, so when watching it, pretend that its a classic disney cartoon, rather than a movie - then everything fits just perfectly. Basically its a pure disney cartoon - made in flesh. Absolutely amazing.

Will see Inception soonish

Am I the only one who has something else to say about the film than praises? I mean, it was a nice film (especially the idea) but the plot got a bit overrun with unnecessary & not that amazing action. The fight at the snowy fortress & the gravity free brawl were basically textbook examples of action scenes which would have worked much better if they were cut to half of their lenght. All in all, after watching it I felt pretty much the same way as I did after watching the last two Matrix movies.

Also, the 3rd Rock from the Sun -guy was pretty good in his role, which surprised me quite a lot. First I couldn't connect the dots and spent a while wondering where I've seen him, as I'm not really a fan of the mentioned show.

Yeah, that is the best thing of the whole movie. No music what so ever. Dead silence *as if you are really there*. I mean, how realistic is it if you are in a gun fight with rave music on the background.

It is way more intense if there is no music and all you hear are the footsteps. Just awesome

I saw Skyline a couple days ago *cough* and I must admit I was expecting an utter shitfest. The way the press and so called 'reviewers' commented on it I now suspect a lot were just on the bandwagon to call it crap - much like Waterworld was slated.

It is not a brilliant film but it's also not shit. Sure it has some really yawny moments but it is how I would imagine a lot of people would react to an invasion. Some go outside and get twatted whilst the ones with common sense just sit it out in a room with their friends. You do get the sense that something bad is happening outside and the glimpses of the aliens and the stompy stuff are impressive. There's an obvious 'WE CAN HAS SEQUEL KK!?' at the end and I hope there is one.

Finally got my hands on The Sorcerer's Apprentice, after it was hastily taken off the cinemas before I could see it. The movie itself wasn't all that - typical summer movie storyline of boy trying to woo girl, but it was entertaining throughout, mostly from Nicholas Cage's on-screen scenes. I wish they'd focused more on him, and paying more attention to magic, instead of rushing you through why evil lady wants to destroy the world in 5 minutes at the start, then forcing you through an awkard "Wanna make out?" scene repeatedly until the end. The lead guy was kind of irritating, his nasal voice exclaiming "Oh my God!" every time something remotely cool happened sucked. In future please STFU and carry on juggling plasma balls.

Effects were great, as well as the background music. The stand-out piece of the movie is a nod to the original Sorcerer's Apprentice animated short with Mickey Mouse. I think the best part was the tech behind some of the spells' workings; it was really cool that they had some original ideas instead of the old fireball/Kamehameha stand-by as well (Hungarian mirror trap was brilliant).

Skyline.... isnt that the film where the aliens rip off his head and put it on an aliens body.... then the girl thinks "wtf just happened to you dear", then it ends while they are still in the stomach of a beast.... kinda cliffhanger and indication there will be a skyline 2.... where he rips through the stomach of the beast, kills all the aliens with the help from the military and they all live happily ever after.

i think 95% of the budget was just on special effects, there was no storyline whatsoever.

on a side note, if you haven't seen already, you should watch...

Black Swan - yes i know its about ballet, but it has a good story and some steamy lesbian sex seen (no nudity)

lol u gotta be seriously bored to watch them old black and white movies.

well since my main computer decided to go bang on friday night and Im awaiting repair of it, I figured I would download some movies onto my laptop to pass the time:

Skyline - had potential but ruined by a stupid ending

Green Hornet - had some funny moments but just seemed lacking, def the worst of the "super hero" releases lately imo.

RED - pretty good cast of stars (bruce willis, john malkhovich, morgan freeman, helen mirren) wasnt a bad movie at all, some pretty funny scenes and not overkill on the action parts either, I enjoyed this movie much more than "Expendables"

The Mechanic - Newest movie by "Jason Stratham" (crank, etc) not too bad either but I just cant help feeling that this guy is fast becoming the british version of steven segall, budget movies with all the similar plots and him playing a similar role everytime

Seeing that those "old black and white movies" a lot of times have at least interesting story behind them, compared to that just-pack-a-lot-of-action pulp you've listed (with this odd orange skin filter used for that crappy orange-blue contrast philosophy) you actually have to be bored to watch most of those new ones.

On the other side, I'm watching a lot of anime nowadays, which aren't really better currently.

damn right I was bored, my having my main pc go kamput over the weekend was a nightmare lol, luckily its fixed now.

as for the movies I listed none of em really screamed "omg awsome movie, must watch again!!!"
And I would aggree that most of the old black and white stuff probably has got alot better storylines and plot compared to the same old garbage being churned out by todays movie industry

Saw my first Alfred Hitchcock movie last night, Topaz, which was very nice. I definitely like his style and can see why his films are so highly regarded.

Odd first one. You really need to watch Rear Window (my favorite) and North by Northwest next! They will blow your mind.

Drive-in opened again for the summer, went down there and saw Thor. Good special effects.

True Grit was on after. Fantastic film all-around. If you haven't seen it it's worth going out of your way for it.

Saw two films about the British monarchy today, The Queen (2006) Starring Helen Mirren and the much-praised The King's Speech (2010). Both were excellent and worth a sit down if you haven't seen them yet.

Saw the Pillars of the Earth mini-series, based on the Ken Follet novel.

I can only say good things about it. Cast and acting was fantastic, as was the cinematography & music. The sets were extremely well done - I believe they had actual stonemasons recreate the construction process. They also follow the book very closely, which is a definitely plus as the book's story is already fantastic per se.

Spartacus is cheaper version of Rome (even literally, Rome was a huge money sink - mostly because they used as little CGI/3D as possible). Less quality (those masses and colosseum), more action and blood splitting the way it did in 300. It's still good but only ok when compared to Rome.

I watched a couple of Kevin Costner movies recently. The Postman (http://uk.imdb.com/name/nm0000126/) was basically Waterworld (which is Mad Max on water) on land. I never watched it before because critics mostly bashed it to the ground (only 10% on rotten tomatoes). I'm glad that I finally did since it was way better than I expected. It's funny how many more recent imdb comments also say that the movie was better than they expected.

Mr. Brooks (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0780571/) is more recent, just 4 years old and somehow it passed by me. Costner has a very different role from the usual. It was great and the movie doesn't have the usual Hollywood type ending what you'd expect. Recommended if you like Dexter for example.

Watched Road to Perdition (2002). One of Tom Hank's best movies, and one I didn't fully appreciate at the time I first saw it.

The piano duet scene is when Connor realizes that Michael really is his father's right hand man. Literally.
