Not really caring one way or the other, I think the snow probably had a huge effect on the campaign too.
Most of the people who'd have bought the X-Factor song are probably the type who'd have bought it on CD rather than buying it as a download.
The snow has totalled transport to places where CDs can be bought (Skewed perspective here, perhaps, as where I live has been cut off since it started with the first buses only just begining to make it here today, and only one on its proper route through).
While they could always have bought it digitally instead, RAtM which only had digital distribution presumably knew people would support it by buying it that way. The one with both, people expected to be able to get a CD.

Yeah the point wasn't to "stick it to the man/big labels", it was to stop the X-Factor specifically.
