It's quite amazing what you find when you start clearing some of your family's old stuff out.

My Gran died a few years ago and only recently I've got around to getting rid of some stuff. Amongst the piles and piles of papers, mostly bank statements and catalogue receipts, you do find some gems.

The first pocket computer I ever saw was stashed in a box, stuffed under the stairs, and from what i can tell it's still in working order. The Sharp PC 1245 ((Linky) (http://www.thimet.de/CalcCollection/Calculators/Sharp-PC-1245/Contents.htm). Then I stumbled upon the so called 'first 16bit computer' the Texas Instruments, TI 99 4A! (Linky) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TI-99). It's still working! I learnt basic on that.

The rooting continued, whilst papers flew through the air like confetti I also found 2 ancient Matchbox cars, well, Motorbike and Sidecars; yes there's 3 there, the ones I found are the silver and green one.

When my Dad was a young 'un he was given those cars by his Grandma. One afternoon, whilst having a temper tantrum, he threw them at her. She picked them up and never gave them him back, ever! Today they were found.

I never knew the stuff my Dad collected, there's trophies from when he used to fly model aircraft, toy cars which he stashed in the vain hope they may be worth something some day and more ornaments than your local charity shop.

My Grandad's army medals resurfaced, along with my Great Aunt's Red Cross medals, there's literally thousands of photos from the war days and some even further back of people I just don't know. my mother's wedding dress showed up, which is a tad worse for wear - along with a silk pyjama set that my Grandad sent my Gran when he was in occupied Korea.

It's hard to clear out such things when it's all associated with family, so it looks like the vast majority of it will be put back into boxes, sealed up and stored. Sure I could have some on display, but it's not my taste. The ornaments are ancient, not suitable for display in with my decor; I'll see about getting some value at some point.

Scary shit is, I was watching a rerun of Antiques Roadshow and this walnut cabinet was shown, I looked and thought 'Oh fuck, it's identical to the one that was in the shed, my Grandad stored nuts and bolts in it'...I cried when he said the price...over 500. Sadly it fell apart years ago to damp.

Anyway, just felt like sharing :) The digging will continue and never know what's going to turn up!

Heh, that's pretty cool. Bit of a shame my old folks don't live in an old family house, yknow. I've seen the place get built from the ground up. :( And I know every single item hidden in the little niches of the attic. Nothing left to discover.

Like my old bodyboard I used during summer holidays on the Canary Islands! Stupid thing was awesome, but did give me a chest rash.

Yes.
This thing is still hiding somewhere at my parents' house as well, the white turned yellow-brownish, dirty, broken as well. Took up the SNES a couple of years ago to have a Mario Kart party with my friends and still have it next to my own TV now.

Meh, I was so sad when that white one broke due to massive amounts of play (I saved a fair share of my own money to buy it, at the time).
Then, all of a sudden when I got back from school, the translucent (pocket) one was waiting for me at home.

*cheer*
