I'm currently in the proces of buying a new PC, and I'd like some input on what to go for. I currently have two systems in my mind, one of them is with an Intel Q6600 (2,4GHz & 8mb cache), 4GB DDR2 RAM and a 9800GT graphics card. The other is with an Intel I7 920 processor (2,66GHz & 8mb cache), 4GB DDR3 RAM and an ATI 4850 (512mb).

Now, I know very little regarding computers, but what I'm looking for, is a gaming PC which will last me for atleast a few years. I'm not aiming towards being able to play the next generation of Crysis on ultra high, but I don't want to realise in two years that I can't play the newest games on moderat settings with atleast a decent performance.

Which computer would you reckon to be the better in terms of lasting power?

Thanks.

These are pre-built systems aren't they?

Yes they are.

Well lets open the options abit, pre-built systems will never allow you to build a good system unless you want 400 (or whatever your chosen currency is) added on because.

Is there no-one you know could build a PC? Or even a near by PC repair shop could do it? It opens your options alot.

The main thing is, that I'm not the one paying, my parents are. And they vastly prefer using one of the bigger companies.

but surely if you explain (or bullshit them if it works better) that they will be saving money or getting a better PC for their money. Where do you live? all the companies I use to order PC parts in the UK are great, broken items can be returned and replaced in under a week, warranties are full proof and again if you order the wrong part most will replace it.
