View Full Version : Levelling and Early raiding spec.
Well no one has said anything yet so, anyone suggest a spec for either of these?

I was thinking

or a variety thereof, depending on Felhunter mana regen & dmg curse availability.
This is for raiding + levelling

depends if you like drinking or not. and or, if ure full t6 when you hit northrend???
TBH, hands down, deep affliction is the fasted most efficient lvling spec at the moment, Dark pack spam with ure imp out leaves u FULL hp and Full mana, mob after mob.

Just by clicking the stuff I wanted in affliction I ended up at something like 60/1/0 at level 70 (that would be when 3.0.2 patch hits) as a non-raiding-anything-serious spec. So deep affliction will probably be my choice (not a longshot since I've been affliction for many moons now).
Given that they seem to change/move around talents quite a bit right now nothing is set in stone ofc.

Deep affliction looks good for levelling (again), I would keep 8 points in destro though (Bane and Cataclysm).
Love improved Felhunter, as it was aleady my preferred Dark Pact pet.

I still reckon that Bane and Cataclysm (heh, maybe Improved Shadow Bolt also - unless there won't be any shadow destro anymore ... word has it that fire is the new black) would be "needed" in the long run (as in raiding).
I know I'll end up casting Shadow Bolt only upon Shadow Trance procs when leveling ... Drain Life will be the filler if/when DoTs are up I guess.

It's nice in instances, groups etc, but yeh, otherwise dotspam is fine.
hmm, seeing how expansive talent destro spells will be ( look at them, its fucking base mana % Oo ) ( and yeah i know the new soul leech restores 2% mana on a 30% chance, that's like ... nothing :) )
wont the raid spec be affli ? it sounds very promising

Hm, re-evaluation put me at 61/0/0 for level 70 and destro can go hide under a rock as far as I'm concerned. Wonderful...
Now I just want a glyph or something with "Warlock Aura" that makes the earth scorched where I walk and stuff :)

Hm, affliction warlocking made simple (ripped from a post on EJ forums):
if (we have to recast Haunt/CoA/corr/UA/Siphon/Immo in less than gcd)
if (nightfall) : cast SB
else if (we can LT without wasting mana) : cast LT
else : cast SB and prepare your mind because you're wasting ~1s uptime of CoA/corr/siphon... or, worst of all, Haunt
if (Haunt's CD is up) : cast Haunt
else if (boss is dead in less than 15s)
if (mana is ok for 10s) : cast SB
else : cast LT
else if (Corr faded) : cast Corr
else if (CoA faded) : cast CoA
else if (UA will fade in less than gcd or has faded) : cast UA
else if (nightfall) : cast SB
else if (Immo will fade in less than gcd or has faded) : cast Immo
else if (we are not > 70% mana) and (we can LT without wasting mana) and (boss is not dead in 2s) and (we don't have to move soon) and ((eradiction icd is soon finished) or (a trinket is soon up) or (bloodlust will come soon) or (anything like the previous statments)) : cast LT
else if (mana < 30% and boss is not dead very soon) : cast LT
else : cast SB...we'll feel like short snippets of pseudocode from now on - this is of course before the latest beta push.
Oh, and this is sweet:Haunt -- In order to give you a wider window in which to renew the spell, we lowered the cooldown to 8 sec. Refreshing Haunt will also trigger the heal from the existing Haunt, so clipping your previous one won't be as big a problem.
It seems to me that a lot of people fancy deep affliction on the server for leveling as well. Personally I am a fan of specing right up to siphon life/felguard at L71 (just use siphon life with a voidwalker out at 70). Ive heard that the world first warlock to 80 used the same spec in combination with a disc priest, but you really dont need to grab a healer unless you are taking on more than 5 mobs at once.
So far the spec is working great for me. When doing "kill X number of Y mobs" quests its a simple case of DoTing everything in the area (including non-quest mobs for the extra XP), gathering them all up around your felguard and then putting one or two SoCs down. Howl of Terror works great with the new spell-pushback mechanics, and life drain easily keeps you alive. The best part is doing "gather X items from world objects" quests. Make gathering the objects priority. If any mobs decide to attack you while guathering just sick your FG on it, dot it, and return to gathering. It lets you gather extra XP while you are doing those typicly non-grinding gathering quests.
So why not deep affliction and voidwalker? Well UA and Haunt have cast times, and as someone who likes to keep on the move while doing quests, that can slow me down. The build really is effective when engaging multiple mobs at once, so I also dont have time to wait for casting a spell on every mob. Insta-DOT ftw.
PS: Kicks arse in pvp too.

I guess I'm that deep affliction variant. Killing mobs? Um, DoT up as many as you can see with the instant ones (Siphon Life, Corruption and CoA) , Haunt one, use Drain Life some ...wait a bit and the mobs to die - life tap once and proceed to loot them with me on 90%+ health and no downtime. Fel Arrmor is like having an instant low level Renew on all the time so if you Life Tap as soon as mobs are dead your health ticks back until you have looted them.
Downside is that since DoTs still don't tag the mob right away I had some people (accidently and sometimes on purpose (damn you Horde! Damn you!)) steal my mobs ... not much to worry about.
My biggest problem so far is bagspace ... there is never enough :)

Possible fix soon?

Nice if it ever gets implemented. Since patch 3.x I do feel it has become a little better (or am I just lucky) but still far from good. If I'm not mistaken the application of a DoT on a mob does cause a (small amount of) aggro even before the first tick so adding in a small damage component shouldn't be that hard from my, laidback, point of view - the mechanic is already there: immolate.
Any Idea's on early raiding spec's? I dont fancy affliction as its crap on trash and its just meh.
Im at this moment specced Felguard + devistation with imp sb (http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?warlock=55003005200011000000000000000000000000000 0000000000000205033011350021500135231300&glyph=000000000000) the spell rotation is curse, immo, corruption and sb.
But was thinking something like demon/destro fire hybrid (http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?warlock=05033205210031050010000000000000000000000 0000000000000235003011350021500135000000&glyph=000000000000) with imp up to got 5% more crit wich looks pretty good
could also just go full destro, or meh-ffliction.. full demon + meta would be a waste imo.
Any thoughts. I havent tried affliction but if you guys say it could do 2k dps ez or something like that, i wouldnt mind trying it out
21-11-2008, 09:32 AM
Affliction do 2k dps? Should very much be possible since I easily did 1.4k dps in a 5 man including trash at level 75 without any classes around boosting my damage and with my level 70 gear. Trash was not AoE'd btw.
As affliction you just roll your face over the keyboard over and over again trying to keep all the funny stuff on the mob (which is very much impossible and a bit stressful to try).
This is for levelling though ... raiding will require a bit more focus and some kind of priority (and staying awake).

Felguard / Emberstorm
I tried it last night and I recommend it.
yeah, ive been using it a few days now and its the best

Im currently level 74 and im 51/0/14, so Affliction. I haven't had to stop and eat or drink once with this spec in four and a half levels and that for me says it all.
