I got bored with feral on my horde druid. I also didn't want to spec resto, as I suck at finding groups and stuff (just can't be bothered). So I thought, if I spec boomkin I can get caster gear so I'm not completely useless as a resto druid at 70.

Found boomkin to be a lot of fun in the evening I played it. Was building up to the talent build:

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=0tcrziIsguVoZVMhh

Wondered if anyone had suggestions, mostly aimed at pvp\solo play. At 70, if I geared with the balance pvp set (think it's wyrmhide) is that set 'ok' to switch to resto with, or fairly useless? Currently aiming to end up at 70 around the time season 4 starts (whenever that is).

Any cool tricks in pvp when playing as balance?

Was aiming at simply playing with this spec until I find a decent partner on the server, then switching to resto or dreamstate depending on partner.

Oh, and btw. The furor is basically only for shifting to bear + shout to break stealthers.

Spam moonfire. Duh.

Yea, well. I tend to try and root/starfire/moonfire/wrath spam :)

but yea, I was gunna bind the 'mostly moonkins is for uh, moonfier spam!' /say to some ability keys (perhaps moonfire, i dunno, might be too obvious then). Though, I'm sure that'd get old fairly quickly.

Few basic pvp tricks, somewhat obvious but I've beaten plenty of doomkins that didn't bother trying anything besides spamming wrath/moonfire:

Cyclone, wait 3 secs, start casting starfire. Hits them right when the banish effect ends, precious little they can do about it. (Have to adjust a little if they're under DR, ofc.)

Use bear form, bash(especially if you can get behind them) and drop treants -- being stunned means you have no avoidance.

I found starting as cat, then saving a few CPs for a maim to interrupt healers was decent as well.

Balance can be very strong in pvp, As Kinshara said timing a starfire whilst a target is cycloned, is the best tip, once you master that... you can do 2k+ without them being able to do anything every dr, This means Cylone >starfire >cyclone >starfire.

Another tip, dont stay in moonkin form so long, you have talents in the balance tree which greatly increase your healing, So your healing is quite good use it! (I see so many boomkins which do nothing but stay in moonkin form, not the way to go really)

As for arena goes, if you plan on that i recommend for 2v2 playing with either a rogue or a warlock, Both have been said to go quite well.

./note using a restoration dreamstate spec with restoration gear is lots of fun and works well.

Boomkin is a joke in PvP as it is now :P if you really want to you can spec restokin later on when you've some good healing gear, but honestly I wouldn't advice trying out boomkin for arena. It's just not enjoyable, you're always the focus target, you get easily CCed and interrupted, you'll end up healing half of the match anyway.. but it looks like there's some wonderful changes in store for boomkins with the coming of WoTLK

I think "Not enjoyable" isn't the right term to use, it's pretty funny watching a badly geared rogue try to carve you up while you are moonfiring him from behind 17-18k armour.

However yes, full Boomkin for arena won't work, you don't have a decent enough damage output in 2's and 3's because you probably will be the focus target, and unlike SL locks dotting everything on screen and mages having 2xIB/Block/Nova/Blink there isn't a massive amount you can do. Perhaps try some setups with 5v5 if you don't mind losing a lot of games.

On another note, no reason why boomkins aren't viable in BG's, so enjoy the spec if that's your choice.

time to put you on the moonfire spammer list i recon :P (and no that part has been closed behind us for ages so let that one dead )

just had to add it.

and boomkin is still quite a funny spec to play specially in AV. where range is king. in arena it just depends on what you want to achieve. if you can accept that fun > rating/losses go for it.

also gear wise look at rawr is has moonkin mode now aswell

Well, for arena I will go resto or dreamstate. I just didn't want to level to 70 as resto and was bored of feral :(

However, battlegrounds have been insane fun so far. Haven't laughed my ass off so much in ages.

I was top of the wsg game the other day and I was level 61... wtf...

and no that doesn't make me skilled, I'm actually not good as moonkin. Just having a laugh with it. :)

One game, i launched some treants at someone trying to kill our flag carrier. Then escorted the carrier back to base.

As I was halfway up our tunnel, I was suddenly surrounded by a bunch of trees. I was like "wth are those!!!!!!!"... until I remembered they were mine -_-

I seem to play bg as a dps who heals when needed. Seems to work well so far.

Heh, feel free to make jokes man, even if you made 50 more it wouldn't really make up for how retarded I was.

If you're enjoying it with full oomkin spec i recommend you give restokin a try if you already haven't. It's a real "jack of all trades" spec, I rolled druid to be a hybrid and it's the most enjoyable spec for me =)

Pity I lost the screens of you basically calling all the druids doing it retards in raid chat for hours after they moonfire spammed. :P
It was awesome though. :(

By restokin, are you talking about something like a 40/0/21 build, similar to:

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=0tcrziIsxuZZVMIxMo

Or something more like a dreamstate resto build, like:

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=0tcrziIs0uZZVMIxca

Depends what partner i end up with i guess. :)

Heh sorry, I meant the 34/0/27 build. Or yeh, something like your second link.

Yea, i think I will be trying 35/0/26 (the build i linked). Once i reach 70, playing with full 48 balance till then simply to make levelling a bit easier. Though I must admit a few times i wish I'd had NS :)

I played with my 35/0/21 build at level 64 a bit, which seemed to work okay, but I think when I tapped out my build I didn't really put enough thought into it. As balance of power seemed like a 'need to have' talent in pvp. A bit of rethinking and I came up with:

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=0tjMzbIsMuZZVMIxcq

voila! 34/0/27. Which is what I gather you were referring to and yea that one's better than my initial attempt at a DS build. NS is really nice to have (though I gathered it would be). Respecced back to full balance again for a time, mostly so I can plow through mobs a bit quicker while levelling.

So what's the best way to spec as an undergeared druid in the arena? Say you had a lot of PVE healing gear and some Arena gear, maybe 200 ish resillience. I'm thinking that maybe Restokin might be a good idea to add survivability and healing?

I found Restokin unplayable without 350+ (400+ preferably) resilience. Standard 8/11/42 should work, to maximise the PvE gear, or 11/11/39, or 13/11/37, but these last two depend on how much +healing you end up with. The more you have (+1500), the more points you can spend in Balance.
