OK

As the buying another computer option seems to be as expensive as I thought it would be, here's the reason why.

When I first got my graphics card it was fine for 4 weeks, then afterwards it was laggy/choppy. So I then tried UNDER clocking it and it's been working fine, its since been fine. Thursday of this week I left the machine switched on and came back to it Sunday. Since then it's been really slow and laggy when switching between applications, slow going from the boot menu to the Windows loading screen, then from the Windows screen to the log in screen etc etc.

I assume my GFX card is finally knackered?

Run MemTest to make sure it's not your RAM, Skip.

i have something of a similar problem but for me i can run say hell gate london on fabric settings but when i play WOW i must under clock or the machine freeze up and reboot after a min or 2. Im gona try the memtest thingy when i get home from work but i have zero skills at this so what to look for in the test?

For errors, simply. Remember that You need to run full loop at least (if not more) to test RAM when it is warmed a bit.

I took it to the shop to have a 8800GT installed and 2GB of Corsair RAM. Seems it was full of Virsuses and stuff. Ah well, all nuked now and running well, have to be careful what sites I go on!

lol. it PAYS to invest in a decent anti virus, firewall and anti spyware for this simple reason... if you dont you will pay an arm and a leg paying some place like PC world to do a basic task which an anti virus could have done.
