Since no one noticed Turiel's post in Trolde's thread I'd just like to make a quick announcement of the new feature he installed.

The new bbcode for now embeds youtube, google video and dailymotion links. (And another site which Turiel doesn't remember because he's shit.)

To use this code:

[ media ]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n80nK-ETOIQ[ /media ]

Gives this result:

[media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n80nK-ETOIQ

Enjoy!

Not to piss on this idea, but isn't this disabled on a lot of forums due to it being quite vunerable to exploitation?

Such as?

If it's getting abused we'll remove it.

Which it won't.

Play nice.

Don't know what the limitations are on the tag, but if it works for things outside youtube, you could use it to load and execute malicious flash or the like, depending on the users security levels.

Remove it before the shit hits the fan!

Well, it may just parse and load things from youtube, in which case it's probably fine - just depends on the limitations of what [media] actually does.

I remembered, MetaCafe is the last one.

It doesn't allow you to load custom SWF/FLV files.

So to answer Asmonub's question, it's safe.

Unless one of those websites gets hacked, or someone manages to spoof the parser into thinking the url tagged is from one of the above websites. Pretty unlikely.

these kind of forum mods require video ID's to work, for Youtube video ID's look like >> 53Z4azN5phs

if the website doesnt have video ID's then videos wont work.

It works now, after You removed that "uk." part.

there are other mods which allow the UK part and all other parts for Vbulletin.

Turiel

I care! Just use youtube :P

Goonerr

it was youtube i used and it didnt work simply because it was a UK youtube.

Vegelus

Gee, and You couldn't notice why it was't working? It took me about 10sec to think and check it when PL youtube didn't work too.

Vege you are forgetting that some people don't have the time to go to youtube.com instead, y'know. that's 10 seconds of valuable time, wasted, gone forever, never to be seen again. plus all the extra effort in typing out the different letters, that's a real strain on a finger.

Vegelus
21-01-2008, 10:32 AM
Who says about typing? Delete 3 letters and voila!

Oh my, You're right my dear friend, as always.

As others have noticed, just replace country.youtube.com with www.youtube.com - its the same URL otherwise, no difference.

Goonerr
21-01-2008, 08:28 PM
well thanks for your shitty sarcastic attitude, but since im a member of youtube and allways logged in it goes straight to uk youtube when i access the URL, and since i have the same mod on OTD site which accepts ANY youtube URL i expected it to work since these are the same vbulletin forums, so no, it isnt so obviouse einstein.

There's no need for the defensive attitude either. You're just proving that you're bringing all the reactions you see on these forums on yourself.

It takes all of pressing the backspace button 3 times to remove uk. from the URL so it won't be changed.
