And yeh, it's still as boring as ever.

Even Avengers Shield looks like a reject from Tron or something. In all fairness, mobs found it very difficult to hit me, and if they managed it or it was blocked, Holy Shield or Reckoning kicked in and hurt them back in some way so it was kinda fun for a short while.

In general however, the whole thing led to a frustration about wishing I could use these amazing spell boosts in other trees. Guardian's Favor, Imp HoJ and Imp DS are pretty amazing spells to have. In prot tho, I don't believe they work as effectively as they could in Holy or Retri.

But such is the game and I'd be stupid to expect it to be any different. Turning Pallies into Gods when they're close enough already is a bit TOO much to expect, especially as we've been given so much in the last patch.

In terms of aggro management and mob handling in larger raids, its hard for me to say just how effective the prot tree is as I didn't personally get a chance to try it out. Of course, the benefits of the tree are plain to see for anyone that wants to have look ( http://wow-europe.com/en/info/underdev/burningcrusade/paladin/talents.html btw ), and I've heard from friends that have played the beta that prot pallies are very good in raids. But I view the tree as a tanking tool (like most commoners do), and I'm not sure my favourite spec of full Holy doesn't work almost as well in terms of holding aggro effectively. Holy spell dmg and Righteous Fury is a pretty amazing combo, and with Consecration and now our taunt, I'd say Pallies are already better at multiple mob handling than any other class. In terms of current raiding, a lot of raids can have an excess of healing, so a tanking Pally that is not prot specced can get away with it.
In the 25-man raids, I suspect a tanking pally will be forced to spec Prot. More so for the reduction in damage to themselves than anything else.

I guess ultimately, I was (pointlessly, I know) looking for something that was more interesting than the old prot tree was, and as expected, it wasn't to be.

edit: removed smileys. irritating things...

I also specced Prot, just because i never had done so in the past. I went into Scholomance as main tank, and while i know scholomance isn't the best example for a tanking pally (because of the added holy damage of course to undead), i was still pretty much pleasantly surprised to see that it went very well.

The other classes couldn't take aggro from me, which is what tanking is all about i guess.

I tried the prot spec 1 more time, as 3rd tank in AQ20. We had an abundance of warriors on that raid, and when i and 1 warrior (ok fury specced) fought over control of 1 mob, i won...

There is a thing i heard recently.... that in about 25% of all cases, a paladin is a better tank then warriors (or druids). I guess that goes for AoE tanking, and Off tanking.

This made me think - the new taunt of the paladins IS very usefull in off tanking. Say a paladin is spot healing the raid, so he is pretty much focussed on all those names on the screen and the health bars. He spots 1 health bar continuasly going down - 1 he was already healing that target, so now he just presses his new taunt ability - and voila, mobs targetting the clothy will come running to the paladin. This doesn't need a tanking spec though...

All in all, i didn't think it was boring to tank... it was a change of what i was always doing, and i very much liked it. The only real drawback i experienced was my lack of pulling power. The only ranged attack was Avenger's shield, which is pretty useless against mobs where there are sheeps, or other mobs too close by.

My spec at level 70, i think, will be something like this... with in mind that i am healer first, and offtank second.

Although i dont play my paladin much :), Parci with ur lvl 70 spec wouldnt it be better to Change the 3 points in Benediction and swap them into Blessed life, that way 10% chance to get half damage from a mob, For tanking this is very good and for healing as well, If u do the agro thing on a clothie u have 10% chance from the mob hitting you to do half damage, useful for both scenarios were as the 9% reduce on seals and judgements is for just tanking or? (as i said dont really play my paladin much just seems a good swap over :P)

No. Seals and judgments are used for just about everything.

Wouldn't bother with a few things personally (divine strength for starters), but anyway.

[Edit] for typos

You don't want divine strength, the points are alot better used in improved SoR for agro.

If the mob is splitting its attack between yourself & the warrior then I can see why you "won".

Uhm... i dont understand what you mean lol Cristo... we just fought over aggro, without taunting, and i 'won' the aggro because he stayed beating me....

Prot paladins at level 70 are teh win. Tanked pretty much every 5 man so far without any difficutly, not been to karazhan yet because I need a pesky key :(. SoV makes it much easier to tank too, with the constant holy damage being done to the mob, concecration usualy holds the other mobs to you too. With the TBC talents too there is alot more damage reduction for paladins, RF gives a flat 6% and spell warding takes off another 4% of spells. Thinking of going prot spec when I start raiding the 70 content on live

I have nothing against a paladin tanking, if it gives me a break from the same shit Im all all for it.
