Just been checking out some of the hunter stuffage in tbc, and it seems the sets are based more on more mana and regen (imo a good thing, though we could FD + drink), but at the cost of agi/AP...

What do you guys think of this?

Well it shows that we can still gain quite alot of mana in specific fights. As you said we can Feign Death and drink, but i doubt we could do that in a fight that is movement based. Also, alot of other stats, like more AP or Agility will come through soceting, so i like it :)

Well, You have second source of AP running near, aren't You? Pet scaling with gear (with stats is more true, as buffs on You are making it stronger too, so You will want them badly, also on pet) is giving a lot, just from this what I saw on PTR.

though you never use your pet except for pvp

Disagree, I'm using my pet all the time - I'm a hunter. Really, a lot of fights allows You to use Your pet with no or little caution needed. Easiest way is to look at rogues - if they are fighting, Your pet can fight and survive too.
And damage it makes isn't so small as You would think - even without buffs. And certain buffs (+str, +AP) makes it a lot better, as Your pet gains 125% of their benefits.

More details (with huge howto about using pet in instances and raidinstances):

I'll post how pets are scaling with gear on PTRs soon.

You can find my current gear and build in sig, shortly - 3xT1/5xT2, agiwhore 0/21/30. Pet build is all around (http://www.direhornshuntershut.com/petcalc.php?build=8vXvXv0v3vXv4v7vXvXvXvXvXvXv2v4v 2v2v2v4v6v16v0v4), same on PTR.
On PTR tried to make similar build (http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/underdev/burningcrusade/hunter/talents.html?0000000000000000000001505201104000000 000033310022510310300500000) to current for this comparision.
So, here are stats of my pet currently (http://kolos.math.uni.lodz.pl/~sliwa95/rzeznia/wow/patch/scaling/before.jpg), and this is how it looks on PTR (http://kolos.math.uni.lodz.pl/~sliwa95/rzeznia/wow/patch/scaling/after.jpg). AP doubled, sta, armor and magic resistances increased a lot.

For example here You have some T3 hunter (http://kolos.math.uni.lodz.pl/~sliwa95/rzeznia/wow/patch/scaling/T3hunt.jpg) and his pet (http://kolos.math.uni.lodz.pl/~sliwa95/rzeznia/wow/patch/scaling/T3hunt_pet.jpg).

I've also found nice thing with traps. Now You can be even better CCer in group/raid with "trap build" (http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/underdev/burningcrusade/hunter/talents.html?0000000000000000000000000000000000000 000000323022402220303000000)(Entrapment, Clever Traps, Trap Mastery, Resourcefullnes) and with change of traps mechanic.

So imo hunter will be (and is) better with all those changes, more capabilities and ways to be. Best is that till TBC (and 66lvl Steady Shot) there will be no such thing as "dps cycle", so Xbow of pwning at last will loose its power. And all three trees will be really useful in raids.

Even better. This seems to be quite fresh change, yesterday it was still 66 ;-).
