View Full Version : Best PVE spec'

After the rewamped Rogue spec have been out for some time, I was wondering about if I could get some pointers for what would be a good spec for PvE (end-game raids).

My spec is looking like this at the moment, but it would be nice to get some pointers

Non-dagger combat spec.

But then, not specialised on swords/claws either.

Cut off the PvP-oriented talents like imp.kick & imp.sprint, focus on PvE.

Or go for something simple & basic, like this (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/rogue/talents.html?3053031000000000240552100050150231000 00000000000000)

I agree with Takfiri, would probably try to squeeze in lethality thou.
something similar with http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/rogue/talents.html?1053031050000000230550100050150231000 00000000000000

I think 'Best PvE Spec' is very situational, personal, and dependant on many factors.

One contributing point is, what weapons you use. Swords, daggers, or non specific heavy main hand, fast off hand (maybe a mace/dagger, sword/dagger, fist/sword or other misc. combo).

Another is what you want to get out of your spec - and your play style.
Do you want to max out on burst damage?
Do you want to improve your sustainable damage over time, or dps.
Do you want to maximise the efficiency/damage of one particular skill (e.g SS, BS, evis).
Do you want to perhaps sacrifice some dps and spec in a way to increase the rest of the raids dps (e.g hemorrhage)
Do you want to maximise your options using lots of different skills depending on the encounter (my e.g here is seal fate)

I think rogue specs are very flexible. I've tried a tonne but keep coming back to this one :

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/rogue/talents.html?3053231050012513203052000500000000000 00000000000000

For me - this gives a lot of options. Backstab is almost a guaranteed crit, giving a lot of combo points which I can use to increase dps using a slice and dice, and have enough time to do 1-2 more 5 point moves before having to renew it. Maybe an evis, or a rupture depending on the fight (e.g a rupture before going out of los on maybe chrom or firemaw). It also helps a great deal I have found on sartura, being able to get fast points for a kidney shot, which now increases raid dmg on it with the new talent (although I miss the faster cool down for solo pve). The reduced cd on evasion helps with this particular fight too.

If you wanted perhaps a bit more burst dmg or specific BS dmg you could sacrifice the dagger spec for opportunity - another very high dmg spec I found was:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/rogue/talents.html?3053221050000003203052000550000000050 00000000000000

But personally I found having to renew SnD so often frustrating =p I just love the flexibility seal fate gives (for a dagger build as BS costs more energy so your points generate slower).

At the end of the day - play around with your spec until it suits the way you play - and what you want to get out of your rogue. I feel it is pointless speccing all out damage if you can't control your agro, and if you can't sustain that damage during longer fights.

Hence why rogue specs are all a bit personal and very opinion based ^^

Conclusion - there IS no best PvE spec =p It's an illusion!!

On the contrary, the best dagger pve spec exists :p

obviously you can switch some filler talents around

Well, at the moment I wield swords.

But what I was interested in was pointers to build the most effective talent spec for end-game raiding be it Daggers/Swords/Fist/ect.

and BTW thanks for the really good replies so far.

i haven't fully gimped my PvP viability yet just because I raid in PvE and I manage to keep up with the damage meters, if not poon them :-)

The spec Khalam linked = WIN 8)

And... wouldnt sacrifice Lethality if i had sword spec :)
For swords, pure pve, I would probably use a version of this spec:

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/rogue/talents.html?2053031050000000230152020050150231000 00000000000000

3/5 Lightning Reflexes changeable to 3/3 Imp Gouge. *Fillers* being 2/2 Imp. Sprint and 1/5 Deflection (perhaps even 2/2 Endurance might be considered filler....)
