View Full Version : Solo PvE specc. (warlock)

I've been playing around a bit with my warlock alt and I'm not sure which specc is best. I aim for purely PvE, mostly solo play.

The specc I came up with is:
http://talentcalculator.merciless-gilde.com/?lang=en&show=t&t=80802

(yes, I know this is the cookie cutter DS/ruin build)

I want to have those big omfgbbq crits that ruin gives and I like the instant corruption. But are there better PvE builds? How about DM/ruin? Missing corruption seems... well, I like the ability a lot.

Tips from the more experienced locks?

Edit: I usually DS the voidwalker for nice hp regain and then lifetap for the mana I need. Works nicely.

No pet = gimp. Yes, regen is nice, but that's what mages are for.

Right, DM it is then I guess eventhough I'll miss having instant corruption.

DS / SM rocks for Solo PVE. Soloing Elites non stop due to mad health regen. You won´t need bandages / food / drink. Non-elites? Run around, slap all your insta dot´s on every mob in sight, then come back loot the trail of corpses you leave. It´s fun and quite different from the usual nuke builds. That´s the build I used for Silithus grind back in the day. Could take on 3 bugs at a time.

Not MD. Never MD. SM/Ruin or full destro or soul link or something, not MD. Or if you really want DS go with SM/DS as Myr suggested.

That would be along the lines of that, although there is probaly better demon talents you could pick instead of unholy power/fel intel but it doesn't really matter since you wouldn't have a pet out.

Something like this. Definetely go for supression, CoEx is nice in PVP, but NPC´s will still catch up to you with it on them. Only if you use the Amplify curse it will help. Supression is great. Demo talents don´t really matter. You could either put 2 points in Voidy or Succubus, doesnt really matter though.

Just go destro and bribe mages to make you a few bags of water/food before you go out grinding. Sure its not mana efficient but its wrong how fast you can take some mobs down:

So this build would be played: dot everything to death while getting hp from a sacked voidwalker? No nukage at all?

Also, I suppose I should try to get lots of stamina? How do +dmg fit into the build?
Then again, +dmg doesn't come in abundance until 50+ somewhere.

Yeah, pretty much. DoT and fear, 2 mobs = Howl of Fear to send a second running. Nukes? Nightfall. Stamina is good, so is damage, healthy balance will help. Even if you get hit on by a mob. All the health regen you can get through the various means of this build will keep you up easily. Play around, it´s just a respecc. I am sure you will find out best what works rather then have it described here

I'd most likely use a SM/Ruin build and pimp myself with shadow damage gear, starting with Shadoweave around lvl 40.

You'll grind the most mobs down in a few hits, and if you have some bread and water, you'll have quite short periods of rest.

Never tried different builds when leveling, but I used it at Dark, and it worked out quite well, even though my hp was gimped for a long while..
I still hurt lots compared to others at that level.

Not entirely sure exactly how it looked, but it wasn't far off from this. (http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/basics/talents/warlock/talents.html?3500200512201135000000000000000000525 0005102000100)

But of course, as always, what works out best for you depends on your playstyle, and if you got loads of cash you could try some different builds, but it kinda is a waste of monies.

I used something like that build to get the hell away from level 40 and to 60.

Ashen you might be a good PvPer and your build might suit an alliance raider who gets BoS all the time but if you want to convince some horde warlock of your builds then you should post some arguments.
So why no MD for soloing? Whether you get SL or not shouldn't matter for this, but considering 20% more pet dmg and 10% dmg reduction with VW (which you mostly use for soloing) I wouln't put my points in Improved Enslave Demon, Improved Succubus, Improved Firestone or Fel Intellect.
It's up to you whether you prefer SL or Ruin, but for purely soloing SL might really be better.

Two reasons: Improved corruption, improved life tap. Also, anything and everything I say is merely my own personal opinion and to be construed by such.

Instant Corruption just plain wins. Once you tasted it, you don´t wanna miss it. Also, Ruin is nice, but overated for DPS output. Rather go Soullink for PVP / PVE. MD / Ruin is fine really, btu it´s up to everyones personal prefference. Thus, try otu and find what suits you best. Changing specs and playstyles keeps the game fresh

Yep, you don't want to be without these ... nope, you need them imho.

I was pure SM/Ruin level 1-60 and I soloed my way there (more or less). The last instance before I hit Blackrock Mountain was Stockades (so I skipped Scarlet, Gnomeregan, Maraudon, BFD etc. etc.) and I had no problems at all even as a pure beginner last year. It worked very well ... and I'm not giving up on some affliction :)

Word!
I also can't live without imp lifetap. Those two are must have imo.
Grinding is a little bit slow with the ds/sm but there is absolutly no downtime. Im grinding mobs 2 lvls above me... It's awsome, I can't wait to get to 60 and get some better gear.

Hi all,

Im playing since beta and always as lock. Sm/ruim was for me the best PvE build to go from 1-60. Now since my gear is upgraded alot (bwl stuff) i dropped SM and took Demonic Embrace with Imp HS.
This build suites my playstyle the best as i almost dont play PvP. That's what a lock is all about imo. Use the build u think suites ur playstyle the best.

Regards Haplo

I have respeced my warlock at least 10 times and this is my current build at 60 :

http://talentcalculator.merciless-gilde.com/?lang=en&show=t&t=124339

I can chew through the 60 elite giants in Winterspring very quickly with this build and with very little down time (Sac VW). This build is still very effective in raids and PvP ..although I tend to keep a pet out when I am doing PvP.
